Standard Track
Introduction:
The running track construction process can be broken down into steps. A lot of space exists in the schools and colleges for good standard track to be laid out, a temporary track does not require much money. Similar is the case in the cities where good space exists for good track to be laid out. This may help to establish good practice which may popularise athletics on mass scale. The following points should be borne in mine while laying out a track.
Planning :
Design and planning : The initial stage is developing the design of your athletics track, prior to obtaining planning permission. Once planning permission is granted, technical drawings and specifications are created ready for construction.
Environmental
considerations : Environmental mitigation
is becoming a top priority for many organizations and governing bodies.
Health and safety:A thorough plan should be in place to ensure a
safe construction site, employing the latest best practice to meet all
legislative requirements for running track construction.
Site:-It
should be suitable at central place and
approachable by various modes of transport. It should be a multipurpose area.
It should be such as to give popularity to avenue for
important events. It should be attract a vast gathering spectators.
The
size should have natural protection against excessive heat or wind.
Direction:- The direction of running shall be left hand side
(anticlockwise). The layout of the track should be made in north. South
direction which protects against the sun.
Fence :-Enclose the
athlete arena with the fence to check trespassing there should be shady trees
around the track as protection against the heat.
Area:- The area
should be used enough for a 400 meter track providing space for warming up
competitors and spectators. etc.
Allotment:- While
lying out a track, separate should be provided for the competitors, officials
and spectators. These allotment of spaces should be properly on the western
side of the track. For most of the athletic meets are constructed in the
afternoon session.
Levelling: -
The ground should be levelled. If it is not on the organizers should estimate
the cost involved in the process of levelling.
Water:-Water
facilities should be easily available for levelling and other purpose. If
possible, the water points must be fixed around the track in the field area. The
water points must be beneath the surface of the field and should be covered.
Parking:- Space
should be provided for motor car, cycles and other vehicles. There should be
separate entrances for guests, media persons, officials, athlete and the
spectators.
Miscellaneous:-Separate
arrangement should exist for girls/ women athletes. Beside there should be
separate call room, dressing room, rest room both men and women and canteen or
a stall etc.,
